The first thought that came to mind when I saw the post was โ why not build something fun? ๐
We love food. โค๏ธ
So why not build something useless enoughโฆ but fun enough? ๐
Egg puffs! Something we absolutely love eating. ๐คค
But here's the catch โ for every egg puff you eat, you only get half an egg. ๐ฅโ2
Where does the other half go? ๐ค
To some strangerโฆ somewhere. ๐
And the funniest part? We both share a single egg without even knowing it. ๐
So we thoughtโฆ
Why not build something that connects these two people? ๐ซ
And then came the obvious questionโฆ HOW?! ๐ตโ๐ซ
Brainstorming mode: ON. ๐ง ๐ก
Then came the idea ๐ก:
What if we put an ice cream stick with a unique code on every egg puff? ๐ฆ๐ฅ
Each code would have a pair, and the stick would be placed on the puff while it was being made.
So somewhere out there, another person would have the other half of your egg. ๐
And just like thatโฆ Eggmates was born. ๐ฅโค๏ธ
Reached the venue at 5:00. ๐๐ป
The excitement was real.
The nervousness? Also real. ๐
We had absolutely no idea how the next few hours were going to go.
The inauguration ceremony began.
Okayโฆ officially, the hackathon had started. ๐
Introduction session.
Guidelines.
Reading the handbook.
Trying to understand what exactly we had signed up for. ๐
At this point, we were still calm. We had time. ๐
Or so we thought. ๐
Time to turn our crazy eggpuff idea into an actual project.
We tried to come up with a concise idea for the project and started learning about GitHub.
Lots of tabs.
Lots of confusion.
Lots of "wait, how does this work?" moments. ๐ตโ๐ซ
Alright.
Let's build this thing. ๐ค๐ฅ
We started working with Claude.
Yep.
Already.
Claude said: "That's enough for today." ๐ญ
Fine.
Switching to Codex. ๐ค
We decided to use Supabase as our database.
Stuck.
Completely stuck.
The Supabase connection was not cooperating. ๐ซ
We kept iteratingโฆ and iteratingโฆ and iteratingโฆ
Slowly losing our minds. ๐ง ๐ฅ
At this point, the project was less "building a startup" and more "trying to survive." ๐
Okay.
Enough debugging. FOOD BREAK! ๐
Biryani was nice. ๐ค๐ฅ
Also met some amazing people along the way. โค๏ธ
That little break definitely helped.
Okay.
New strategy.
Drop everything. Start from scratch.
Let's try Antigravity. ๐
Motivation suddenly went ๐๐๐
"We WILL make this work." ๐ค๐ฅ
โฆ
Still stuck.
Nothing much to show yet.
And that feeling? Eating us alive. ๐ซ
We had spent hours working, but looking at the project, it felt like we had barely moved.
Maybe music will save us. ๐ง๐
At this point, we started planning for the worst.
If nothing works, we'll at least show a static page.
Not ideal. But better than showing nothing. ๐ญ
Now we were multitasking between:
Honestlyโฆ Probably not our best decision. ๐
Antigravity was busy asking permission after permission after permission. ๐
But we weren't giving up on Supabase.
Meanwhile, the static page was being built in parallel.
Plan A, B, C, Dโฆ everything was running simultaneously. ๐ญ
Finally realisedโฆ
Multitasking was NOT working.
Okay.
One last attempt.
Let's give Supabase until 12:00.
If it doesn't workโฆ we move on. ๐ค
SUCCESS.
index.html finally ran. ๐ฅน
I honestly can't explain the feeling.
After hours of being stuckโฆ seeing that page actually run gave us the biggest sense of achievement.
Happiest moment of the past week. ๐ฅนโค๏ธ
No time to celebrate though.
Before making any more changes, we pushed the code.
Thenโฆ
Deployment successful! ๐
And the best part?
We could open the website from our phones. ๐ฑ๐ฅ
GitHub Pages came through. ๐
For the first time that nightโฆ it actually felt like we were building something. ๐ฅน
We explored some other cool projects.
Then started thinkingโฆ
"What else can we add?"
Suddenly we wanted:
Because apparently, getting the basic version working wasn't enough. ๐
Again.
Of course.
Time to switch accounts.
We are back. ๐ญ๐
Codex wasn't really understanding what we wanted.
So we had to explain.
Then explain again.
Then explain it differently.
Thenโฆ
explain it like we're explaining it to a five-year-old. ๐
We explained the whole idea to ChatGPT and asked it to create a prompt for Codex.
Andโฆ
this was kind of working! ๐ญ๐ฅ
No more experimenting.
No more unnecessary features.
WE NEED TO SHIP. ๐จ
Okay.
Deep breath.
Let's do this. ๐ค
Changes were happening.
The website was improving.
We added:
For the first time, it actually started feeling like a real project rather than a collection of broken ideas. ๐ฅน
FINALLY.
The final code was pushed to GitHub. ๐
That feeling of reliefโฆ
UFF. ๐ฎโ๐จ
Hours of debugging.
Countless iterations.
Multiple AI tools.
Supabase fighting us every step of the way. ๐
But we made it.
Nowโฆ
Setting up the README.
Learning GitHub along the way.
Still thinkingโฆ
"This GitHub thing is way too hard." ๐ญ
But slowlyโฆ
getting the hang of it. ๐
Camera ready.
Website ready.
Everything ready.
Andโฆ
SINGLE SHOT SUCCESSFUL. ๐ฏ๐ฅ
No retakes.
No crashes.
No last-minute disasters.
Justโฆ
What started as a random thought about egg puffs turned into a crazy night of brainstorming, debugging, learning, failing, restarting, eating biryani, meeting amazing people, arguing with AI, fighting Supabase, and somehowโฆ
building something that actually worked. ๐๐ฅ
We came in with an idea.
We got stuck more times than we can count.
We almost gave up.
We started from scratch.
And somehow, at 11:56 PM,
that tiny index.html file running
felt like the biggest victory ever. ๐ฅน
It wasn't perfect.
But it was ours. โค๏ธ
And somewhere out thereโฆ maybe two strangers are now connected by the other half of an egg. ๐ฅ๐ซ
